Moss On A Stone

Outside the front door is a collection of my favourite stones and the other day I noticed that a black beauty, which had been egg shaped and broke a few years ago, was now wearing a toupee of moss. Reading a bit about mosses, Wikepedia says mosses love a reasonably stable surface on which to grow. This phrase enchanted me as I suspect we all like a reasonably stable surface.

  1. Thanks matt, have you worked this way? That is using your scanner.

  5. These images of moss and lichen are stunning Liz. Do you darken the background somehow or is that how it scans? They seem to emerge luminescent from the darkness...

  6. Thanks so very much doñaprofe, Sarah, Susan, Eve and Fiona for your lovely comments. I think we all share this fascination with stones and for me, some how, they hold ancient memories and this one with her coat of moss enchanted me. And Fiona I made a box lined with black paper that I place over the scanner bed. This way I don't squish the flowers and I get the dark background. As Sarah said there is a feel of the old Dutch paintings to them which I am pleased with.
