Day 3, the 1990’s

Day 3, the 90’s, this was a time to come back to my first love, art, and try and make sense of the death of my brother in law from Aids and the Montreal Massacre when 14 women were killed [The Female Christ, The Singing of the Stones]. I started drawing, silk screening and casting bodies with a beautiful Japanese paper called Gampi, The castings became installations; video and sound joined them, the works became performances. It was a time of collaboration and experimentation.

Day 2, the 1980's

Day 2, The 80's. I was having a hard time making a living during the 70's and so when my sisters started having children I started to make clothes for them, and then their friends wanted clothes for their kids and then clothes for them and things just went from there, I painted and quilted silk jackets, I embroidered and embellished, I collaged onto leather and suede tops, winter coats, knit wear. Each piece was unique, although I used very simple patterns.

Day 1.The 1970's

There is a game / challenge or what ever you want to call it going around Facebook, where artists post 3 - 5 works a day, and as I can't follow rules I've decided to do things this way, a decade a day. [I thought it would be interesting to see how I got to where I am now]. This is the 1970's, I had just graduated in sculpture from OCA now OCAD, was doing a Masters at Sir George Williams, now Concordia, falling in love and moving to the Townships. These are scans from old photos and I really wish I had shot them in colour.

Studio Wall

I'm trying not to think, worry, judge or even speak about what happening in the studio; just keep working, pin them on the wall, move them around, make more. Just be part of the unfolding.

Jack Frost

It's been cold, really cold, -32 C. the other morning not to mention the wind chill factor; which means great frost patterns and glittering snow. It also means spending 10 minutes scraping the windshield of the car both inside and out before you can go anywhere. Today however is expected to be a balmy, it's -6 as I write this, a good start to the day.

40 Years + 1

A brief trip to New York City to celebrate our 41 years together, full of magic; meeting new friends, spending time with darling nieces, seeing Matisse again and again and again, visiting the Met, again and again, snow and cold, Brussels sprouts on every menu, taxis without shock absorbers, champagne, galleries, fun, kind and friendly people, a kaleidoscope of sound, colour, vitality; it was wonderful.

Driving Home

I don't know if everyone is as possessed about weather as we Canadians are, but really forget hockey, weather is our national sport, and with all 10 provinces under weather watches it promised to be an exciting couple of days. Here in the southern part of the Eastern Townships, we got off lightly, some snow, a lot of rain but seemed to have missed the dreaded freezing rain. It made for a moody, misty, and brooding landscape; must say I love it!

Early Light, 2015

We woke up to a beautiful sunrise to start 2015, a Narnia one. Fresh snow fell overnight and the world is made sparkling and new, a portent for the year ahead. A year full of beauty, of love, of tenderness and gentleness; a year of grace, that's what I hope for us all.
