Some Studio News

So pleased to announce my upcoming show "A Silent Trust" at Galerie Art Plus, opening July 4 and on 'till August 4. The vernissage is Saturday July 6 from 2 - 5pm and it would be a pleasure to see you.
Started 3 years ago [2016], these paintings have had a more than a few lives. I've put on paint, scrapped and sanded off paint, added more paint, added thinner layers of paint, all the while trying to find the why that these works needed to be paint and not some other material. I had a sense of why but I kept loosing it, but as they say "she persisted" and here I am.

Here are  few detail shots of works in "A Silent Trust" at Galerie Art Plus, 8 rue Maple, QC

From July 13 to 21st  Gallery Art Plus will be open from 10 am to 5 pm during the Tour Des Arts. There will be concerts at the gallery 2 nights during this time so check out the flyer for more details. Link here.

And if you are in Europe, a group show of The Drawing Collective and invited artists are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus with a show at hase29, Osnabrük, Germany. Four of my drawings will be in the show which ends August 3. A link to hase29 website.

And I have finally updated my website so most of the last 3 years work is in one place. And it links back to the older work. [Yes, you just heard a huge sigh of relief that it works] So here is the link www.lizdavidsonartist.com

I've decided to take the summer off, clean up the studio, work in the garden, swim and finish reading the Mueller Report, so a joyous summer everyone and all the best!

Some Photos From The Opening

It's been a busy time in the studio and I just realized that I hadn't posted any photos from the opening of the Dark Drawings at the Centre culturel de l'Université de Sherbrooke. They did a beautiful job hanging and lighting the show, a huge thanks to Suzanne and all her team. I'm in the space called Espace Invitational, just outside the main gallery and there is a glorious show of Suzelle Levasseur,  Succession d'e`clats, in the main gallery; all works on paper and graphite with a stunning work, approximately 10 x 30 feet. Photos below. If you have a chance check it out. Opening hours and directions are here  www.GalerieUdeS.ca

It's White World Out There Today.

It's snowing and blowing here today, often approaching whiteout conditions while last week I came upon this store in the midst of renovation.

Just Because

So it's November and the day is wet and gloomy; the leaves are gone, the snow stayed on the ground for a week, the pond froze; yet there is a quiet stillness and beauty to the day.

1st Taste

Yesterday we woke to a white world, today the pond was frozen over; a taste of what's to come but maybe not quite yet.

Purging the Studio

In my determination to clean up the studio and free up working space and storage space, I tackled a pile of drawings that needed to be culled. So I started ripping and tearing with the intent of putting the pieces in the garbage; but then I noticed the torn edges of the paper and started to play. One step forward, 2 steps back for the studio clean up.

After the Storm

After the storm the moon gleams, the power is back and internet restored. Trees are down but Jack will take care of that problem. I'm still thinking of all the people in the Caribbean 5 weeks without power or clean water.

Night 3 of no power, the moon glows on the roof.

Getting Back to the Studio

After a rough summer [J. had to have some surgery, he's fully recovered now] the gardens are almost put to bed, ready for winter and I have had more time and inclination to be in the studio. I wanted to let you know that Rebelles / Rebelles opens this Thursday, Nov2, at Galerie Art Plus in Sutton; all the works are small format and all are 9 in x 9 in framed. I will be exhibiting new work from my ongoing exploration of light and shadow. Hope to see you there; the vernissage is Saturday, November 4 from 2 - 5 pm.

It's that time of the year....Rebelles / Rebelles returns.

Lurching Towards Spring

I have spent the winter hunkered down in the studio drawing, building pop up books and playing; trying like most to keep some sense of balance in this bleak world time. Yesterday though was one of those days when you could smell spring and I can't wait.

There are a few shows coming up that i am pleased to be part of. First, the upcoming Biennale du dessin at the Musée des beaux-arts de Mont Sainte Hilaire, with 4 charcoal drawings. It runs from the 19th of march to the 30 of April. Here is the link to their website: http://www.mbamsh.qc.ca

Next is The Drawing Collective exhibition opens at Galerie Olivier Nouvellet in Paris, where I will have some drawings. There is a wonderful ctalogue for the show and the link is here https://issuu.com/edelab/docs/drawingcollective2

And there will be a The Drawing Collective exhibition in Sydney, Australia, April 14 to May 1, at Articulate Project Space, link here http://articulate497.blogspot.ca. I'll post more information about that as soon I have it.

Meanwhile I found my big brush and will continue my Spring Fever dance in the studio.

A Pop-up Book

A few weeks ago I had the idea of making a pop-up book, something I had never tried; but with all the stress and chaos in the world it really seemed like the right time to throw myself into something new. And it was fun, and exciting and it went through a lot of drafts, and still didn't end up quite as I imagined.

Light for 2017

I'm a little late to the party to welcome in 2017 and wish you all the very best for the coming year. It seemed fitting that J. and I finished off 2016 with flu and colds; that meant a very quiet holiday time with brief spurts in the studio and a lot of time reading and watching The West Wing. I walked into the studio this morning to the best winter light, strongly slanted, almost reaching the far wall and it made my heart sing. So for 2017 I wish for all of us more heart singing, along with the usual wishes of health and goodwill.
