The ice has been trying to slide off the front porch
for a week now. Every day it inches forward, but like everything else it is
holding firm, frozen in place or moving at the speed of a glacier. And everyday
I watch it's progress, and I have to admit, admire its edge silhouetted against
the various shades of sky. Rumor has it that we are warming up today, that we
may gain back the land, also covered by 1.5 inches of ice.

ReplyDeleteHope you're staying warm up there. We've snow right now with temps in the 20's F. Tomorrow's forecast is for rain...lots of rain. 1-2" of it, in fact, just during the day. Temps in the 50's F though. Mother Nature doesn't seem quite know what She wants to do, does she? Makes for really good studio days. Enjoy!
Thanks Jennifer, we are in our January thaw, lots of rain like you, although I would love some snow, actually a lot of snow. It so icy out even the dog is having problems walking!

ReplyDeleteThanks Connie, I loved watching the changes in the edge, especially the colour, and between the 3 layers of ice/snow, the middle was the most snow so it melted first, looked file a flacky pastry. Melted today.

ReplyDeleteThanks Fiona, the power is staying on mostly, just short outages to keep us on our toes. And when it been so cold we usually have snow so it really is beautiful, this year we are looking rather scruffy, more like March.

ReplyDeleteThere is a delicate quality to ice until you try to remove it from the front path, so far 5 bags of salt and 3/4 of the path is exposed, and a couple of blisters on my hands from whacking it. Thinking I've not a happy camper with this winter Charlton, so I really appreciate that you look at these images with a less jaundiced eye.
