Housecleaning

Housecleaning is definitely not one of my favourite jobs, I always want to move out once it's clean so that the house stays clean forever; that being said seeing these reflections when I cleaned the fridge made me happy.

Dust If You Must
Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better,
To paint a picture or write a letter,
Bake a cake or plant a seed,
Ponder the difference between want and need?
Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,
Music to hear and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.
Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come 'round again.
Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not always kind.
And when you go and go you must,
You, yourself, will make more dust.

  1. beautiful works of art! love their delicious subtlety (like all your work). makes cleaning the fridge worth while just for the photos!

I kind of like things like weeding and cleaning. They are strangely meditative. But mostly I think I like the feeling when it's all done, the delicious calmness of clean.

  2. Thanks ZenDotStudio; I love to weed and you are so right about it being meditative, but I am still searching for that in cleaning. I spend most of my time calculating how long it will take to finish = how long before I get back to the studio, a book or the garden.I will try to remember your line "the delicious calmness of clean'

  3. We're definitely in sync here Liz. I cleaned and dusted the other day...and took reflections of the light on my fridge as well. Something in the northern air perhaps?

    1. Indeed Jennifer, I always blame this type of behaviour on the northern air!
