The Love Affair Continues

There are 16 portraits of coffee cups now so I decided to see what happened if I layered them all in photoshop. Controlling the color was difficult so I decided to work in black and white. Really like what happened. It reminded me of the wonderful lines from the John Donne poem.

At the round earth's imagined corners, blow
Your trumpets, angels, and arise, arise
[From the Holy Sonnets]

  1. Liz, I have been enjoying coming along for the ride on this exploration. A great reminder to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, thank you!

  2. The 16 portraits are beautiful, like looking into another world. Combined, the image has a deep mystery.

    1. Thanks for your wonderful comment Altoon, I was hoping that is what the viewer would pick up and take away.

  3. I'm alternately shaking my head and chuckling a bit...over coffee cups. Your coffee cups. They are magnificent. The grouping of the 16 is wonderful, but the layered photo...perfection.

    1. Thanks Jennifer, amazing how many of us love the discarded, ignored, and overlooked bits and pieces. As a rust junkie, so to speak, our work has a lot in common.

  4. I love the coffee mosaic. There are so many ways I'd like to see this reproduced somehow -- in stitch for instance, or printed in multiples on cloth or paper. More inspiring than just a good cup of coffee!

    1. I know what you mean Connie, the possibilities seem endless. Fun trying different ways, which lead to more ways and letting them [in a way] dictate where they want to go. Boy there were a lot of ways in that last sentence! Years ago I silk-screened fabric with lemons and oranges, can't seem to leave circles alone.

  5. Love the whole project, Liz. And the composite image is so beautifully nuanced. Brings to mind something I read recently in Jane Hirshfield's "Nine Gates" related to the poetic layering of metaphor... the amplification and resonance that illuminate the relationship between our inner and outer lives. I'll have to go track that down now... :) Thanks for sharing this!

    1. Thanks so much Walt, and thanks for the reference to the Hirshfield book, I love that book. There is a similarity in feel between your work and mine, especially in places like this
