The Colors of Dawn

My favourite times of the day are dawn and dusk; that in between time when possibility opens and closes, that time of light so tender.

Found Blue

I put the phone down the other day and as I picked it up this is what I found. One can never have too much blue.

Summer Songs

During the Great Studio Clean Up and while it was such a mess I couldn't work there; and in between all the ripping and tearing I saw something I hadn't seen before, some way of combining color and line that I needed to explore. These works below were the start of the "Summer Songs"

Oops

So I am pruning away all that dead wood, and trying to be as careful as possible, but I tend to plant heavily and love how the boundaries of plants get blurred, when I realized I had just knocked off the head of an allium, just opening to flower. Oops. I took it inside and put it on the scanner, and it wasn't until I came to work on the scan and wondered how the scanner bed had gotten so dirty, that I realized that the stamens were covered with pollen. Some time later the pollen was removed and I was amazed at the color variations in the petals. Quite wondrous.

More Boats

For the last few months I been thinking about the wonderful colours of the early renaissance and dreaming of time spent in Florence; and learning how to draw shapes in photoshop, small things and immensely enjoyable.

Conversations, Part 2

The sketches/drawings on the wall [link here] continue to talk to each other. Actually some days they seen to dance about constantly rearranging themselves, while other days they argue... loudly. The past couple of days they seem to be arguing; some feel they want to be tents while others feel they are houses. Don't ask me I say,  I just want to play with shapes, and colors and line.

A Frequency of Blue

Spent the last few days rebuilding and extending stone walls, coming in to the house during the hottest part of the afternoon to play with color. I don't know what I am trying to do or where I am going with this but I do know I love the exploring. The "what happens if I do this". I have always wondered about color and sound and while I an not synesthesic I have had friends that were and I envied them their ability to hear the sounds of trees and leaves and sky.

The First Layers

While I was working on the "Scribbles", I took a lot of photos and using Photoshop, started to layer them, taking bits and pieces from one and adding them to another, all the while not knowing where this was going or quite what I was doing, trying to pay attention to what was happening as I layered line upon line. Soon they were demanding more color than what was in the drawings, even thought an amazing amount of color presents itself when you photograph drawings. So back to my files of color and textures. You can see why I really need to get these files in some sort of order. It's a very instinctual process of feeling my way, of trying to find or see the light or follow the line or thread, of trying to bring forth what I sense is there.

The Light in Between

While I was working on the last post, "Oak Leaves", I was intrigued by the colors and shapes between the leaves. In order for the close up of the leaves to be in focus the background was out of focus, and the colors were unexpected and glorious. I was up early and started to play with the colors, layering them on top of each other, like collage. This is what happened. I think each one will become a small work 10 in. x 10 in.

Shimmering Pond

I am loving using this grid idea. It's seductive and addictive and playful. So here are photos of the pond. It's almost my favorite time for the pond, the only thing is it's to cold to swim.
