Finding My Way

While I was taking these shots of the lily pads, I thought I was concentrating on the round shape of the leaf with it's lovely split and it wasn't until I started to process them that I realized that it was the space in between the leaves, the water, that was intriguing my eye. It was the negative shape, in this case, the glassy almost mirror like surface that held my attention. I could blame it on all the rain we've had lately, but it feels like I am being drawn back to the space between things and the line that separates them. After being away from the studio for the longest time in years, maybe this is a gentle nudge to the way back and into my work.

  4. With all that tension at the margins of the leaves, and the tension holding each spot and blob of water on the leaves, in some ways it's the leaves that are the negative spaces. I have found that the combined drama of positive and negative spaces which make the art I like best. I look forward to seeing what you are inspired to come up with next.
