Another Kind Of Dream
Years ago when I was starting the big gardens I did a lot of reading about gardens, how to plan them, how to amend the soil, how to maintain them, ect. ect., but my favourite part was always the pictures. And I would dream, and then I would remember where I live and what zone the garden is. So it was back to dreaming. And one of my dreams was to grow tree peonies. The books all said, "flowers as big as dinner plates", well mine are more like saucers but they flower. I wrap them every winter and I still get a fair bit of die back, but it is worth it. Peony season has started.

Gorgeous peonies!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Connie, I am so happy that there are some after the snow!
DeleteI am so glad you have been able to grow them Liz - beyond belief beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fiona I am too, I've moved them about a lot trying to find a sweet spot for them.
Deleteaahhhhh - exquisite. These photographs remind me of a 'rose garden' I visited by climbing up the hill to the castle in Prague. On the map I noticed that if you went through the rock wall you would end up in a rose garden. Imagine my delight when that rose garden turned out to be only peonies. I have never seen such a display - enhanced I think by the fact that I was expecting more typical roses.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a treat Susan, I have only seen photos [what I call garden porn] of beds of tree peonies. And while I adore roses, I like them best mixed in with everyone else and not just on their own.
