Late Fall Colors

Every morning I walk out to the pond wondering if this is the morning the first ice appears. It's been a warm fall and I am still waiting, and in that waiting there is the enjoyment of watching the pine needles, shaken off in last weeks wind, form their patterns on the waters surface. Bright gold when they first fall the color has dulled and become more subtle.

I Was Suppose To Be Raking The Pond

After I finished with the whipper sniper I thought it would be a very fine idea to rake the leaves and pine needles out of the pond. The pond is deep enough to swim and so we are fairly careful each fall to rake out all the debris in order not to get sediment build up. Decided I would rather take photos than rake, so another job for next week. Love the patterns the needles form as they brush against each other.

Pine Needles

Love the pattern the pine needles make. It's always shocking to me how scratchy they are, when in the early morning slanted light they look so soft and fluffy, an inviting place to made a home.

Back to the Pond

We have had strong winds and driving rain for the last couple of days. Taking a break yesterday and walking around the pond I noticed how the pine needles had been swept to one side of the pond and arranged in the most beautiful patterns. It looked like they were really trying to be obedient and all face the same direction but their natural exuberance made for more chaotic patterns.
