There was a stack of drawings in the corner of the studio that I needed to go through. What stays, what goes, what gets cut up, what's garbage and what might be useful for collage. Final decision, theses stay. And because I have been needing to make some grids, I thought I'd see how the keepers worked in a grid.

As I was making the grid I wondered how just one drawing would work, would there be enough in each square to work. I will need to play with this more.

This is very cool, love it !
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanne, I love to play!
DeleteThe movement in the first grid caught my eye and drew me into the story and dance. But the second grid...well, it fairly took my breath away and left me yearning for more.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if you played with rearranging the second grid and, if you did, how it changed the piece. Could be quite fun...just exchange 2 or flip one or...
Sorry! My mind has gone crazy with what ifs for these grids.
Great ideas Jennifer, I will have to try them out. What intrigued me in the 2nd one was how little had to be in a square for it to work. Maybe it's just that my eye gets focused but another place to play more!
DeleteIt's difficult to throw stuff away when a rethink can make it live again...such as these!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo, I find it hard to look clearly at work, at what it is and not what I want it to be. So sometimes this paring away is good, besides the studio has too much stuff in it!
DeleteI like the energy and the interest in the first one - the movement feels dynamic even within the confines of a grid. the second one I think I would like the movement of the marks by themselves - they feel more whole that way. Altho Jennifer's idea of flipping is interesting...
ReplyDeleteThanks Fiona, the 1st one is 9 separate pieces that I wanted to see if because the palette and energy was similar how they worked together. Don't think the grid is successful, think they would be better off separate. And I tend to agree with you re the second but will have to try Jennifer's idea just to see.
