The Fall Color Wheel / Yellow

Taking a break from the studio yesterday morning, and between rain showers, I was walking around the pond and standing under the sumac. I love sumac, the velvet stems, the orderly arrangement of leaves and the fall color is wonderful.

2 Mochas + une grande crème

Unexpected treat yesterday, friends came down for a visit and we all went to Sutton for lunch. The weather held up and we were able to eat outside, a gift at this time of year. The other big treat was big, steaming bowls of coffee.

Fall Equinox

Last night was the Harvest Moon which only happens when the full moon and the fall equinox fall on the same day, unfortunately it poured last night but when I got up early this morning there she was in all her glory and as I walked around to the other side of the house this is what I saw.

At The AGO

Saw the Eva Hesse, Agnes Martin and Betty Goodwin show at the AGO on Tuesday. The Martin paintings are gorgous; so quiet, you feel yourself sinking down into them. The Hesse portion of the exhibit has a wonderful room with studio works', maquettes of bigger work and /or ideas she was working with in the studio. While the Goodwin area has a few large works, one of the tarps, 2 large drawings and 4 long vitrines of her notebooks. The notebooks are fascinating as they cover her work from the 60's to 2004. There is also a area to watch videos of each artist.

Waiting For Windows

The renovations are progressing at my friends house and some new windows should arrive soon and be installed. Meanwhile the carpenters have prepared the openings and all is ready. The spaces look like musical scales or progressions and I find them very beautiful.

Found at the Bakery

Went to the bakery and found this pile of metal shavings nearby. The color is gorgous and so are the shapes. The bread is also very fine!

Shades of White

I always have loved the paintings of Robert Ryman. There is a postcard of one of his works "Medway" on the shelf beside me as I write this, so I suppose it's not by chance that these images captured my fancy.

Bark = Skin

Saw these wonderful cedars yesterday. The bark is so beautiful and I wondered why I love it so much on a tree trunk and am not so fond of it when it's my skin..... The texture, the pattern, the bit of bright orange lichen....gorgeous.

What Have We Here?

Or where am I ? Sounds like I'm asking about the meaning of life but what I really mean is what are these photos of. Mind you please feel free to tell me the meaning of life but I would love to know if you can figure out the objects.

Playing with Letters and Words

The past few weeks I have been playing with letters and words in the studio. Cutting them out of newspaper, stenciling them, sewing them, making them out of wire and this weekend I cut them out of tin in a way they could stand by themselves. Of course they could not bear to stay in the studio and demanded an adventure. Here is the result. Just click on link below.

Sunrise / Sunset

I love my early morning ritual of making coffee and taking it outside and watching the sunrise, watching the world come into being. Mind you I also love sitting out in the same chair, having a beer and watching the sun set.

Windows / Boarded up

Yesterday we went to one of our favorite art supply stores in Johnson, Vermont, appropriately called The Studio Store. Going there is always a treat and because the day was gorgous we decided to take some back roads we had never been on before. I love adventures and we got lost....and found. In one of the villages I found these beautiful boarded up windows, Harwick I think.

Renovations

A friend is renovating her house and when I was over the workers had just torn out part of the basement storage room. I found these wonderful marks on one of the walls. They could become a piece in themselves!
